Let's hunt Piala Perdana Menteri!

Hari Kecemerlangan Sekolah Berasrama Penuh is ahead. OSEM is in no time wasting the opportunity to drill in some final push and advices for the kiddos before they take the stage.

This year, the HKSBP will be done differently. Instead of every school going to the nationals, only 8 teams will be selected from each zone to compete in the national arena. 

The regional zones are also rearranged, albeit Southern Zone is unaffected. This includes the abolishment of SQL Zone (Sarawak, Sabah and Labuan), of which those schools affected are being grouped into Northern, Central and Eastern Zones. 

Apart from Fairuz and Othman, some of our friendly debaters from other schools were also kind enough to drop by SEMESRA to share with the current BM team some tips and knowledge regarding Piala Perdana Menteri Debate competition. Mock debates were held to gear them towards preparing for the competition. We also show them videos and websites which were useful for them for the practice. Indeed, they gained many inputs from these seniors.

For your information, Ms Hilma was selected to be Pegawai Teknikal for the HKSBP Southern Zone, which is one level higher than that of adjudicator. Congratulations, Ms! You deserved the position for your expertise and experience.

We were also informed of the grouping for the coming HKSBP. For BM team, the opponents were much scared by them, with big name such as SDAR appearing in the same team as them. Fret not, InsyaAllah, we can do something about that by practicing more. For the English team, despite luck seemed to be on their side with no big names being grouped with them, name such as MOZAC in their team should not be brushed off easily. Still, so many work must be done! 

Overall, the review was good. We really hope the teams will go far this time around, although the teams were mostly consist of young batches (what happened to Zealous?). Our prayers are with you, SEMESRA. All the best!

Annual General Meeting 1/2014

Old Semesrans' Association of Malaysia ( OSEM ) recently organised an Alumni Meeting on the 1st of February 2014. The meeting was held to conduct the OSEM Exco Election for 2014/2016 session. The meeting which was held in Economic Faculty of UKM, Bangi included the participation of the earliest three batches of Sekolah Menengah Sains Rembau ( SEMESRA ), as such, the Valedictorian, Prodigy and Extrovert. Before the meeting started, the registration process that took place outside the faculty hall started at about 10.00 a.m. The meeting which started at about 11.30 a.m followed after that. 

As the first start of the meeting, the OSEM members were given a short and concise briefing by Othman Affan bin Zuhir, The President of OSEM, about our beloved SEMESRA that included the history, backgrounds and also the success that our school had achieved for the last 5 years since the school was established in 2009. The aim of the talk was precisely encouraging all the OSEM members to have the spirit and enthusiasm in bringing and sustaining glory to the alma mater in the future as well as determining the direction of OSEM as an Alumni Association. It is also hoped that the OSEM members will gladly volunteer and return to the school to assist the teachers in every aspect, ensuring the continuing success of SEMESRA.

The Exco Election followed after the briefing session. As such, it was held to elect new Executive Committees for the Exco line-up 2014/2016 to fill in the empty positions due to our brothers and sisters who will study abroad. The Exco line-up was determined through majority votes and the results were as follows :

After the meeting had ended, we had some refreshments and proceeded for the Zuhur prayer before heading to the VROX Sports Centre, which was located about 500m away from UKM, for the Interbatch Futsal Tournament. It was participated by 6 teams, respectively 2 teams from each batch that were divided into team A and B. The tournament which started at 2.30 pm was well carried out by the commitee members who were in charge, as well as a healthy competition that was shown by the team members made the futsal tournament a success. The Extrovert B team was declared as the champion for the whole tournament and it ended at 4.30 pm after the prize giving ceremony.

We would like to express our gratitude for all members who managed to come to the first Annual General Meeting of 2014 and made everything possible for that day. We hope that all OSEM members will continually give your moral support and work together towards a brighter future of OSEM, as an Alumni Association and as well as for the sake of Sekolah Menengah Sains Rembau ( SEMESRA ).

EXCO Elections 2014/2016.

Announcement: On the 1st of February 2014, the Annual General Meeting 1/2014 will be held, apart from the Interbatch Futsal Tournament to determine the direction of the Association and to elect new Executive Committees for the EXCO line-up 2014/2016. Everyone is invited to come to contribute ideas to ensure OSEM, as an Alumni Association, would function well and serve its purpose.

For the EXCO Election 2014/2016, there are many empty positions due to many of our brothers and sisters who have furthered their studies abroad. The Two Zealous(es).

Alhamdulillah. 

On 11th of January, four of us, Mohamad Borhan, Ammar Azlan, Othman Affan and Ariff Jeffridin paid a visit to alma mater to give talk to Form Five students (Zealous 1015). This visit marked as the first event in our calendar for 2014.

As soon as we arrived in SEMESRA's compound at 8.30am, we could see our boys were peeping through the windows of the library towards us. Apparently they were having Biology workshop conducted by Cikgu Yati. We proceeded to canteen, where our breakfast was sponsored by none other than our very own Pakcik Osman! Boy, he never changed nor looked old. As you would have guessed, he's still the friendly Pakcik Osman as he was during the old days. We took the time during breakfast to discuss on what would we be presenting later while editing the presentation slides on the laptop.

During our discussion, we came across Cikgu Mahfuzah, who offered us a slot with the Form 1 (Zealous 1418) for an hour. The slot was aimed at sharing our experience during schoolyears as well as convincing them to continue their study at SEMESRA. This came as a surprise as we didn't plan for anything for the slot with the Form 1. Better yet, the slot would be held in another 15 minutes!

As the slot went on, we could see they looked sombre. Homesickness was literally the disease of the day! Jep (Ariff Jeffridin), as the moderator, handled the slot pretty well by cheering them up with joke about how staying in SBP would allow them to know cute boys and girls from other SBP schools. At least, that would motivate them to stay here till Form Five, who knows? Anyway, this year, we have boys and girls from as far as Kelantan and Terengganu. Senyum sokmo ye, adik-adik!

After the Q&A Session, we left Zealous Jr and rushed ourselves to the Surau to meet the Zealous Sr as the clock struck 10.30am. The first impression as we saw Surau was, "Wow, the place looks like a nice place to sleep during a talk!"

However, that thought motivated us to give our best for the talk as we wouldn't want to waste the opportunity to meet them to share our experience and knowledge. We soon talked about the reality of SPM, why is SPM important for them to excel, and how they can achieve greater heights with cooperation within the batch. Not to forget, we also emphasised on the importance of carrying out the Young Tutor programme. On the looks of it, the responds looked good. 

After we finished with our talk, we asked the batch leader, Syafiq, to reflect and share his thoughts on how to improve the performance within the batch in order to get good standings in SPM 2014. The session was ended with the recitation of Doa Rabitah by the whole batch and a special doa by Ketua Badar for their success in SPM. Hopefully, the effort paid off, InsyaAllah.

Time ticked very fast, and before we knew it, it was already 3.00pm. Time for us to leave. 

We would like to welcome all our brothers and sisters together to contribute to the success of our beloved alma mater. Any suggestion for programme relating to academic can be forwarded to us. InsyaAllah, all our deeds will be counted as amal jariah.

To Seremban With Love.

Last Sunday, the Alumni took the initiative to visit our former principal, "Ayahanda" Dato' Azam Hj Md Atan at his house in Taman Temiang Jaya, Seremban. We reached his house at 6 pm. Joining the envoy were Othman Affan, Ammar Azlan, Aziathul Aisyah and Wan Aisyah. It was a very brief visit, meant to foster bonds between us in the spirit of Syawal. All praise be to Allah, Dato' Azam was in a healthy state. 

It was coincident that Pn Rohaidah, our "Sensei" happened to visit Dato' as well, although she came a bit later than us. Time flew very fast as we exchanges stories and updates on everyone. As the clock drew near to 7.30 pm, all chats cut short; the time came for us to leave. Had we stayed there longer, we would have been able to meet Pn Nuraini, our "Frau".

For everyone's information, Sensei will be lecturing Masters in Psychology in UPM soon, after having completed her PhD few years back. This week will be her last moments in Semesra before the transfer to Serdang. It is hoped that the news of transfers of our beloved teachers to the greener pastures will not affect our affection towards Alma Mater and hamper our vision towards school's excellency. May the spirit to assist Semesra in achieving its glory remain fiery and unscathed.

The Official Logo

Discussions have been ongoing between the executive committee of the alumni since early February on what logo to use to represent the alumni. Effective on 15th of June 2013, after further consideration based on inputs received from various quarters and at the same time maintaining a strong connection with our beloved alma mater, SEMESRA, it has been decided by the executive committee that Alumni Semesra will officially use the above logo. Thank you.
