Annual General Meeting 1/2014

Old Semesrans' Association of Malaysia ( OSEM ) recently organised an Alumni Meeting on the 1st of February 2014. The meeting was held to conduct the OSEM Exco Election for 2014/2016 session. The meeting which was held in Economic Faculty of UKM, Bangi included the participation of the earliest three batches of Sekolah Menengah Sains Rembau ( SEMESRA ), as such, the Valedictorian, Prodigy and Extrovert. Before the meeting started, the registration process that took place outside the faculty hall started at about 10.00 a.m. The meeting which started at about 11.30 a.m followed after that. 

As the first start of the meeting, the OSEM members were given a short and concise briefing by Othman Affan bin Zuhir, The President of OSEM, about our beloved SEMESRA that included the history, backgrounds and also the success that our school had achieved for the last 5 years since the school was established in 2009. The aim of the talk was precisely encouraging all the OSEM members to have the spirit and enthusiasm in bringing and sustaining glory to the alma mater in the future as well as determining the direction of OSEM as an Alumni Association. It is also hoped that the OSEM members will gladly volunteer and return to the school to assist the teachers in every aspect, ensuring the continuing success of SEMESRA.

The Exco Election followed after the briefing session. As such, it was held to elect new Executive Committees for the Exco line-up 2014/2016 to fill in the empty positions due to our brothers and sisters who will study abroad. The Exco line-up was determined through majority votes and the results were as follows :

After the meeting had ended, we had some refreshments and proceeded for the Zuhur prayer before heading to the VROX Sports Centre, which was located about 500m away from UKM, for the Interbatch Futsal Tournament. It was participated by 6 teams, respectively 2 teams from each batch that were divided into team A and B. The tournament which started at 2.30 pm was well carried out by the commitee members who were in charge, as well as a healthy competition that was shown by the team members made the futsal tournament a success. The Extrovert B team was declared as the champion for the whole tournament and it ended at 4.30 pm after the prize giving ceremony.

We would like to express our gratitude for all members who managed to come to the first Annual General Meeting of 2014 and made everything possible for that day. We hope that all OSEM members will continually give your moral support and work together towards a brighter future of OSEM, as an Alumni Association and as well as for the sake of Sekolah Menengah Sains Rembau ( SEMESRA ).

To Seremban With Love.

Last Sunday, the Alumni took the initiative to visit our former principal, "Ayahanda" Dato' Azam Hj Md Atan at his house in Taman Temiang Jaya, Seremban. We reached his house at 6 pm. Joining the envoy were Othman Affan, Ammar Azlan, Aziathul Aisyah and Wan Aisyah. It was a very brief visit, meant to foster bonds between us in the spirit of Syawal. All praise be to Allah, Dato' Azam was in a healthy state. 

It was coincident that Pn Rohaidah, our "Sensei" happened to visit Dato' as well, although she came a bit later than us. Time flew very fast as we exchanges stories and updates on everyone. As the clock drew near to 7.30 pm, all chats cut short; the time came for us to leave. Had we stayed there longer, we would have been able to meet Pn Nuraini, our "Frau".

For everyone's information, Sensei will be lecturing Masters in Psychology in UPM soon, after having completed her PhD few years back. This week will be her last moments in Semesra before the transfer to Serdang. It is hoped that the news of transfers of our beloved teachers to the greener pastures will not affect our affection towards Alma Mater and hamper our vision towards school's excellency. May the spirit to assist Semesra in achieving its glory remain fiery and unscathed.

Hari Kecemerlangan Sekolah Berasrama Penuh 2013.

Alhamdulillah, pada hari ini, Hari Kecemerlangan Sekolah Berasrama Penuh kali ke-40 

telah melabuhkan tirai dengan jayanya. 

HKSBP pada kali ini telah berlangsung selama 5 hari,

dari 24 Mei sehingga 28 Mei 2013,

dengan Sekolah Menengah Sains Selangor bertindak selaku tuan rumah.

Sekolah Menengah Sains Rembau telah menghantar wakil untuk bertanding dalam dua acara bagi merebut Piala Perdana Menteri iaitu pasukan bahas Bahasa Malaysia dan pasukan bahas Bahasa Inggeris. Tahniah diucapkan kepada kedua-dua pasukan yang telah beraksi cemerlang di arena bahas peringkat PPM, meskipun misi memburu piala terbantut dek tidak dapat melayakkan diri ke peringkat pusingan kedua.

Meskipun tertewas di peringkat awal, namun, para pembahas kita perlu dipuji kerana berjaya menunjukkan prestasi yang meningkat seterusnya memberi saingan sengit kepada pasukan lain. Diharapkan prestasi pasukan bahas sekolah terus melonjak pada masa akan datang berbekalkan pengalaman yang dikumpul di HKSBP pada tahun ini. Akhir kata, semoga senior-senior bekas pelajar Semesra dapat meluangkan masa untuk turun padang membimbing adik-adik yang masih bertatih dalam arena perbahasan agar mampu terus beraksi cemerlang, setanding pasukan-pasukan bahas sekolah lain. Meeting the Extroverts.

On 22nd Feb 2013, me, Afiq, Farid and few of my friends from Taylor's College went back to alma mater to give a talk to the Fifth Formers as requested by Bonda. It was a short notice request for us to give the talk to the Fivers because we actually had another plan in mind for the visit, but never mind. The response we got was kinda encouraging, especially when we had special guests with us during the talk, namely Amirul Asyraf and Zaki Hilmi, who are Bank Negara and Bursary KPM scholars, respectively. Previously, Amirul studied in SBPI Jempol while Zaki studied in SAS. The talk by these lads hopefully would blow a new spirit to the Extroverts to strive for the best in the coming SPM. We, as ex-students, really depend on them to continue the legacy we created since 2 years ago. The session took us about 2 hours, from 8pm to 10pm.

After the talk, they (Extroverts) did confide with us, especially regarding the woes with the new rules being enforced and the difficulty in coping with studies. Soon after, we had a discussion with Cikgu Muhammad if we could find solutions for the problems.

We also walked around the academic building to have a glance on the classes. This year, the classes are all colourful as the walls are allowed to be painted.

 A little news from the outback:

1. Cikgu Muhammad and Cikgu Saufi are expected to be transferred to SAS, but Cikgu Muhammad is trying to delay the transfer.

 2. The date for Open Day has been rescheduled to April 6th. So anyone who is free on this day are welcomed to come to support the booths. Cikgu Muhammad has already included our booth in the proposal for Open Day, but the proposal has yet to get the approval from Bonda. We'll see how is it going to be later.

First Meeting of Semesra Alumni Association.

Aside from the hiking retreat to Broga, last 25th December, Valedictorian also organized the first alumni meeting which took place at University of Nottingham, Semenyih (which is situated just a stone throw away from Broga Hill). Apparently, there were so many things to discuss about. From the littlest things to the bigger ones.

We started off our meeting with a brief introduction by a special guest, Mr. Mat Kamil, a father to a Valeds. His attendance was unexpected. Moreover, surprisingly he happened to be the Vice Chairman of Gabungan Persatuan Alumni Sekolah Berasrama Penuh Malaysia. It was such an honour to have this golden opportunity as he shared some useful tips regarding the formation of our alumni association. He also gave a short eloquent explanation in handling the alumni organization efficiently. We were notified that a strong alumni association is an important and necessary component of chapter life, providing support, advice and assistance and thus shouldn't be depreciated. 

We then proceeded with our next meeting minute -- deciding the alumni's name. The first proposal by Farid gained the most votes and hence, OSEM (which stands for Old SEMESRIANS) was chosen as the alumni's name. Subsequently, we moved on with the appointment of the executive committees. The following shows the result of the fair poll Valeds unanimously agreed to,

Ultimately, the primary purpose of an alumni association is to promote the long-term stability and existence of the chapter while enhancing the fraternity experience. There are many more ideas that the alumni association can come up with. Consistency and professionalism are important to a successful organization. Hopefully, the elected executive committees can give their undivided commitment and venture in leading this association excellently.

Valeds, On Top Of The World!

So there you go, yet another successful event by Valedictorian. 

 Now the location is none other than the current hiker's attraction, Broga Hill! 

More than 40 Valeds actually showed up on that day, which was quite a large number, than expected.

We started hiking around 8a.m. and descended at about 10a.m. using the same route.
As presumed earlier, the trails were quite rocky and challenging that most of us almost gave up before we even reached the first peak! Somehow, with the determination and not to forget, the words of motivation thrown by our peers, we managed to climb up to the hill top.
It was worth all the struggles. We got to see the breathtakingly beautiful scenery 500m above ground level, relishing the ample greenery and simply breathed in fresh air -- well, needless to say, it was undoubtedly splendid to be on top of the world!

Although the trail of the third peak was quite steep and slippery due to the sandy soils, we made it to the highest peak of Broga Hill safely!

 It was a thrill to share this precious moment with fellow Valeds!
All in all, Broga Hill definitely offers great experience for trekking beginners!

What started out as a dream, turned out to be a reality, as proved by Jajat Peculiar and Najmudin Najib who organised this memorable event. Although the event was at first met with cold respond due to hectic college schedule by some of us, the turnout was just overwhelming when more than 30 Valedictorians went against all odds to come and join the event. Entitled Les Copaque, or "Last Kopek", the rendezvous was set as a supposedly-final gathering before days would get busier for us who would pursue in our respective studies - especially our bro Rahimi, who would be flying to France as quick as this 5th July, to further Engineering.
